As you may have heard the alliance between Fiat and Chrysler is final. Now it is a wait game to see when the new team of automakers can get a car like the Fiat 500 on US shores and in the hands of suspected drivers.
The Fiat 500 is already an award-winning small-scale automobile. Magazines like Top Gear named it the “sexiest car of the in the world” while also gaining the car of the year award in 2008. Hence it is car that could be highly successful and marketable in the United States.
It is a car that is sized smaller than a Mini Cooper, an immensely popular car in the US but the Fiat 500 will have to be modified extensively in order to make it overseas to the US. Fact of the matter it is will have to make emissions requirements and safety standards, important factors that will take time to get it here. How long something like this will take is undetermined at this point...
Just where will they be built? According to a report by Motor Trends, “the 500 could be built in Canada, Mexico or the United States” and may be “the first product of the newly minted Chrysler LL.”
One thing is for sure is we look forward to the day that Fiat’s are seen at local Chrysler dealerships.
