BOSTON, MA (November 18, 2010)-The Mercedes SLS AMG will be at the New England Auto Show. Mercedes has unveiled their long anticipated new generation Gullwing supercar. The new version, titled the SLS AMG, is expected to replace the SLR McLaren. There will be at least four models of the SLS AMG, including an E-Cell, which is planned for 2013. With a long hood, short rear, and passenger compartment situated close to the rear axle, the SLS AMG is an update of the 300 SL Gullwing. Like the Gullwing, the SLS AMG will also feature winged doors. These doors will swing up on gas struts, but must be closed manually. Mercedes embraces the DIY mentality to spare the extra 90 lbs. the automatic system would have added.
The SLS AMG goes from 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 196 mph. It weighs about 3,571 lbs., making it lighter than both the SLR McLaren and the SL65 AMG black series. It is estimated that the SLS AMG will cost somewhere between $200,000 and $250,000, and with the U.S. release scheduled for mid-2011, there’s plenty of time to get that down payment together!
